Pyrrhuloxia Pair. Acrylic on wood panel.  6"x 24".

How many of you have met the Desert Cardinal, known also as the Pyrrhuloxia? These beautiful birds are uncommon in the Ajo area, but much more abundant to the east in the Tucson area and southeast of there. They look similar to the Northern Cardinal,  but are greyer, have a more rounded bill, and shaggier crest. They prefer dense shrub habitat and are often hard-to-find, but worth it when you do. They usually can been seen in pairs and small groups lurking in the Mesquites.

This piece is acrylic on a repurposed wood panel. It is 6"x24". As usual,  it looks better in person than the image here. You can see it in person at @artunderthearches_ in Ajo, AZ.
