Canary's Song

Canary's Song,  20"X 20" acrylic
This piece will be part of the Coal Train Show held on May 30th at Studio UFO in Baystreet Village. This group show presents the works of Studio UFO artists intrepretation of the Coal Train topic that pervasive in Bellingham right now. Artists have really taken this to heart and present some very provocative works.

Canary's Song is my submission to this show. The canary has a secure place in history as an iconic “indicator” announcing danger in its own demise. Miners, deep in mines, kept caged canaries to sensor for potentially deadly gases. A dead canary resulted in immediate mine evacuation.

We find ourselves faced with changes to our community as the result of potential large-scale movement of coal through our community. What risks do we face? Do we want a canary to lead to our evacuation?

Please join us on May 30th at Studio UFO from 6-8 pm to view the art and talk Coal Trains. Light refreshments will be provided and admission is free!
