Sometimes you gotta paint something for yourself. This is Zula. We adopted her as a mature (9 years old) can last year from the Humane Society. What a little character she is. My husband wanted a lap cat, but she will have nothing to do with laps, but is as needy as a dog. She is such a wonderful furry, spicy creature.

Shows!

February is a busy show month for me. I have work in two shows: Fowl Play the Smith and Vallee Gallery's annual bird show in Edison Washington; and the "Red Show" at the Art Under the Arches in Ajo, AZ. It is nice to start the year off by getting some work into the world. Hopefully some of the works fly off to new homes.

Hairy and the Banded Alder Beetle will be at the Fowl Play show at Smith and Vallee Gallery in Edison, WA. The show opens on February 3rd and shows through Feb.

Sonoran Potential and Garden Color will be showing at the Red Show at Arch Under the Arches in Ajo, Arizona. The show opens February 2nd and is up till the end of February.

All That Glitters

All That Glitters- Gilded Flicker 12"x12" acrylic and metal leaf on wood panel.

Gilded flickers and the closely related Northern Flicker are both common in the Sonoran Desert. The Gilded is a creature that prefers the wilder desert away from town. The Northern Flicker is a "townie" in the desert areas I frequent.

The Gilded Flicker differs from the Northern Flicker in having red wing and tail feathers; whereas the the glittery Gilded Flicker has gold. There are some differences in the head patters as well. Both are beautiful  birds.

Dia de los Muertos/ Day of the Dead

Guardians. 11x14 acrylic and metal leaf on wood panel.  SOLD!!!

I am back done in the beautiful Sonoran Desert and in my winter home in Ajo Arizona.  This tiny town has a big heart and an active art community. A couple days after getting into town I noticed a call for art for an upcoming Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) art show. This Mexican holiday celebrates the living and the dead in such a wonderful manner.  I did not have much time to slap something together,   it I managed to put this together. It kinda pushed me, but rhat is a good feeling.  It is not a very traditional piece, but combines my style and subjects with desig ln elements typical of art for this holiday-minus the skull. I hope you have a wonderful Day of the Dead and remember all those people that made your life special. The show will be at the Art Under the Arches in the plaza in Ajo, AZ for a month. Opening reception is Saturday the 14th of October.

Rock Play

I have a secret love for painting on rocks. I love searching for the right rock as I am meandering on a walk. The rock needs to speak to me before it makes its way home. Then I have a wonderful relaxing time creating some random design that suits the rock. Here are a couple recent rock play results.
