I have a solo exhibit of recent work up at the Colophon Cafe (downstairs in the restaurant) in Fairhaven. It goes up on the first of February and will be up all month. It is the first time I will be showing my Cat series. It is very fun. Come by and take a peak and maybe enjoy some goodies while you gander at the art.

The downtown Bellingham January art walk is this Friday. I have work up in two places. Allied Arts has their annual Members Show which is filled with amazing works from local artists. I have a very different piece in that show for me (abstract). I also have work up at Studio UFO in Bay Street Village on Holly. My work will be join work from other artists that paint at Studio UFO. Studio UFO members were charged with creating a piece that was inspired and influence by Paul Gauguin. It will be a mind stretching show.

Art Walk starts at 6:00 and ends at 10:00 (although I won’t make it past 9:00). Hope to see you at one of the two places (I will be hoping around). V

I was selected as one of the Allied Arts of Whatcom County's artists to exhibit works in their gallery. I have a selection of new works up through the end of December. New Piece for the Skin Show

Join me and other Studio UFO artists on the Friday October 7th Art Walk for the Skin Show. The show is titled SKIN and is a show of works created by Studio UFO artists intrepreting body ornamentation as an expression of culture. The show will have works from a variety of artists (me included) and also a stage with some of our local tattoo artists showing off their work. The finale will be an open stage for anyone to show off their tattoos and body work. Could be exciting!

Two Cats on a Sill

This is the first in a series that stars our two cats and explores texture and playing with negative and positive spaces in a piece. This was fun to create by under painting a board with black gesso. This was topped with light molding paste (like putting frosting on a cake) and then I scraped out the positive images (the cats) back down to the black gesso and then came back with acrylic paint and added subtle color. Very fun.

Fate of The Forest Show

The Whatcom Museum of Art and History is holding a group hanging of art inspired by the theme: Fate of the Forest. I have a piece hanging in the Lightcatcher Building, mine is titled "Soil is Forest". This work is inspired by the significance and connection of the soil, the forest and the water.

The show is in connection with an exhibition of Elizabeth Colbornes work from the 1930's (+/-). Both shows are amazing and are located in both the Lightcatcher Building (new museum building) and the old City Hall building.

New Show at Chuckanut Brewery and Restaurant

I just put a new solo show at Chuckanut Brewery and Restaurant on Holly Street in downtown Bellingham. It is a great space with incredible food and BEER!. Come by and enjoy the culinary delights and the art. The show will be up until the end of April. I will be at a "meet the artist" evening there on April 27, come by and enjoy a nice evening.

"Escape" was juried into the Emerging Artist Show hosted by Blue Horse Gallery! Opening night is on Art Walk night on December 3. Stop by and see the art between 7 and 10 pm! The show will be up the rest of the month in case you miss the opening!

I also have a piece in a show titled "Hard Times Now and Then" focusing on times around the great depression and our current economy. Lots of interesting and thought provoking pieces to view. This show is jointly sponsored by the Whatcom Museum, Blue Horse Gallery and Studio UFO. My piece is titled "Burst Bubble", think real estate. Sorry I don't have an image I forgot to take one before I submitted it to the show. The show includes photographs (on display in Blue Horse) and paintings being shown at Studio UFO. The opening for this show is the same night, so I will be wandering between the two galleries (good thing they are right next to each other).

My work will join the work of oil painter Lisa McShane and photographers John D’Onofrio and Jeff Lindeman. This show is part of the Allied Arts 2010 Juried Artist Series. You are invited to the opening night celebration at the Allied Arts Gallery and the Downtown Art Walk: Friday November 5th, from 6pm to 10pm. There will be an Exhibit Walk-Thru with the artists (me) from 6:30pm to 7pm on opening night. I hope you can come, if not check out the show some time during November.

Here is the first in a series I intend to complete focused on the cormorant sketches I made. My focus on this series is shape and value using very neutral colors. I have had fun experimenting with the effects on this one. I wanted to have a feeling of Sumi ink without using it. I started with a charcoal sketch on the canvas that was loaded with charcoal. I then used a sponge brush with watered down black gesso over the bird sketch. Then I back painted the background with white gesso. Then I when over it lightly with acrylic. Let me know what you think of this style.

I have been fascinated with a colony of double crested cormorants that are nesting not far from where our boat is moored in Blaine Harbor. On my regular kayaks past this loud and very smelly group of dedicated nesting birds I have come to love their beautiful shapes and constant movement. Here are a couple of preliminary charcoal sketches that I hope to work towards a couple of larger canvas's. Wish me luck!

Trumpeter Field - Sold

I am excited to announce I will be part of a two person show at the Colin Goode Gallery and Studio on Lopez Island. The other artist showing with me will be Tim Patterson, who is one of Bellingham's most creative artists. I am honored to have my work up beside his. The opening reception is May 7th from 5-7 pm at the gallery. If you happen to be on the island stop by and take in the art.

The Colin Goode Studio is located in Lopez Village at 95 Village Road. It is situated right across from the Farmers Market. This studio is a beautiful place to show art. Resident artist and owner Colin Goode creates amazing icon works along with his stunning oils.

The show runs from May 7 through May 29. If you haven't been on Lopez Island in a while it is a great excuse to now.

NEW SHOW - In the Water and the Air

Show Dates: February 15- March 31, 2010

This show is all new work depicting images of local critters with a twist. The work is presented in a stylized manner to express the motion, temperature and emotion within the subject. Ms. Jackson presents a clean almost graphic feel to each piece that allows the pattern and design in an image dance. Ms. Jackson has been a biologist for most of her professional life and uses her experiences from the field as a source of inspiration. These images were inspired by recent adventures and experiences with local wildlife. Twenty percent of the proceeds from any sale go to the Northwest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.

Miniature Show Success

Thank you all for attending the miniature show! The Studio UFO crew was overwhelmed by the response of people coming to the show. There were nearly 100 paintings at the show, with 25 sold. I am happy to say of the seven I submitted five sold! Thanks again.

The start of a new piece

Here is the start of a new piece. This is inspired by birdwatching in the Lummi Flats and watching the Trumpeter Swans. This group was nestled in the stubble of a cornfield and busy showing off their stuff to their mates. There was lots of feather rustling, dancing and trumpeting! It will be interesting to see where the piece goes. I am enjoying the abstract nature of it so far.

These are a couple of fun miniatures I have just finished. These guys are just 10"X10". I was working from a reference photo from my trip to Desolation Sound this summer. I was reaching for a more abstract representation of the images. Hope I got it right.

Join artists from all over the area for the “4^th Annual Downtown Bellingham Plein Air Paint Out Exhibition, sponsored by Studio UFO, Bluehorse Gallery and the City of Bellingham... This year we had over 50 artists on the streets of Bellingham on one weekend painting. Bellingham affords us all the elements of a city on the cusp of great change. From breathtaking water views, to parks inhabited by enormous fir and deciduous trees to interesting urban landscapes always bustling with many Bellinghamsters amidst old historic to modern buildings and landmarks. Gentrification of Bellingham means higher property values which could mean that it will become harder for artists to remain sustainable in the downtown core, therefore we want to make our presence known and show how much we contribute to the quality and the richness of the downtown.

The plein air painting date was August 22 & 23 and it all culminates in a huge art show at Bluehorse Gallery with an Artists Reception on Friday Nov 6^th and runs through Nov 30.

Vikki plein air painting at Woodstock

Thank you all that came over the weekend to the Woodstock Farms event. It was a wonderful weekend and the farm was stunning! I am happy to report the piece I submitted to the show sold! Evey one is invited to come and enjoy Woodstock Farm on Saturday and Sunday September 12th and 13th. I was invited to submit an art piece that was inspired by Woodstock Farm and it was accepted into this exclusive show. The farm is open to the public on the 12-13 from 12:00 to 6:00 both days. They will not allow vehicles at the site, but will be providing a free shuttle services from Fairhaven Middle School and the Chuckanut Ridge Trailhead. There will be amazing art there from many of our regional artists. I will on-site plein air painting on Saturday, come by and say hello.

Block Printing

I have been having fun with linoleum block printing. This involves creating a design and overlaying it onto a block of linoleum. Sharp cutting tools are used to create a relief block of the design. After the block is complete, printing ink is applied to the block and pressed against the paper. The results always thrill me! The image I have posted will be used as the logo for an upcoming conference for the Society of Wetland Scientists. The image is of Fairy Shrimp, which are incredible little critters that live in temporary wetlands. Very fun!!!

I have taken a bit of time off to move with my family onto a boat. We sold our house and are now full time "boat people". Now that this huge transition is over. I am free to get back to the paints and have a bit of fun. I have posted two of my most recent pieces.

Here is the finished Magpie Flight. This piece is an acrylic image painted over four 12"X12" canvas'. I must be on a corvid (crow family) run, as the magpie is another member of this dramatic bird family. This piece will be in the upcoming Allied Arts Show that will be opening Friday the 6th. Upcoming Show! Please Come and Visit

Great News! I have been selected as one of the feature artists for 2009 at the Allied Arts Gallery. I will have a great selection of my acrylic pieces at this gallery starting in February.

The show is titled "Elements of Dimension" and will include myself, Ann Chaikin (a wonderful painter and friend), Greg Klassen and Jim Agnello who are both three dimensional artists.

The show goes up on February 6th and continues until the 27th of February. There is a reception on February 6th from 7:00 to 10:00 at the Allied Arts space. I would be very happy if you all came! The Allied Arts Gallery is located at 1418 Cornwall Avenue right next to the Pickford Theater in downtown Bellingham.
